1. Q: How do I get PedigreeMe! to run correctly on Excel 2016, Excel 2019, and Excel for Office 365?
A: Excel 2016, Excel 2019 and Excel for Office 365 will work with PedigreeMe! Version 1.65 or later if you make the following security settings in Excel's Trust Center.
You get to these settings in Excel 2016, Excel 2019, & Excel for Office 365 by Clicking on File... Options... Trust Center...Then click the "Trust Center Settings..." button. Then click on Macro Settings and then choose "Disable Macros with notification". Then click Ok to confirm your settings. Excel will remember this setting.
Then close and re-open Excel and then open PedigreeMe!. When PedigreeMe! opens, Excel should prompt you. Simply click "Enable Editing" (if prompted) and then click "Enable Content" when prompted. This should allow PedigreeMe! to fully function.
Note: PedigreeMe! has not been tested with Excel 2019 at this time.
2. Q: What spreadsheet application does PedigreeMe! require?
A: Excel 97 through Excel 2019 (including Excel for Office 365) on a Microsoft Windows operating system. PedigreeMe! Version 1.65 or later is required for Excel 2013 and later (including Excel for Office 365). See FAQ Question 1 for Excel 2016 and later.
Older versions of Excel may not be suited to newer versions of the Windows operating system. PedigreeMe! may not run properly in these situations. Be sure to check with Microsoft.com to ensure your version of Excel is intended to run on your version of the Windows operating system.
PedigreeMe! is not supported with OpenOffice (Do not open or use with OpenOffice. Doing so can damage PedigreeMe! and/or your data.)
3. Q: Can PedigreeMe! work without a spreadsheet application?
A: No. PedigreeMe! is a specially designed .xls file for use with Excel.
4. Q: What computer systems are supported with PedigreeMe!?
A: PedigreeMe! was developed with Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7/8/10 machines. It is not supported on the Mac.
5. Q: How many animals can I store in PedigreeMe!?
A: Only limited by Excel and the capabilities of your PC (Memory, etc.)
6. Q: Can I save PedigreeMe! in the newer .xlsx or .xlsm formats?
A: No. PedigreeMe! will not work properly in .xlsx or .xlsm file formats. PedigreeMe! is designed to work in an .xls (97-2003) format. It will run fine in "Compatibility Mode" as an .xls file.
